We’re pleased to announce that we’ve rolled out a new website, which focuses on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) over 400 square feet. Sonoma Manufactured Homes is still the same team, and has the same standard of high quality prefab home construction that Little House On The Trailer is known for.

So, why two sites?

Basically, we don’t only sell ‘little’ houses. While the focus of Little House on the Trailer is small backyard units and Home Care Cottages, Stephen Marshall and his team also build and install high-quality manufactured homes. These two different size categories also vary in terms of where and how they can be permitted, so we wanted to make sure our website visitors find what they’re after with minimal effort or confusion.

Little House on the Trailer offers smaller homes, up to 400 square feet.

With a note from a doctor, these can be permitted as quickly as the same day. This special legal designation for smaller ADUs, which we call Home Care Cottages, is intended to allow people who require some amount of at-home support to remain living on their existing property, with the assistance of the occupant(s) of a second dwelling. This could be a medical professional, domestic helper, or family member, and either party may occupy the original house or smaller ADU.

For instance, say a grandparent who owns their property decides to move into a Home Care Cottage on their property while their adult child and their family moves into the original house. This type of arrangement makes a lot of sense in Sonoma County, where many older folks own their properties, and many younger families simply cannot afford to buy property in the area.

The second category is larger prefab homes over 400 square feet.

This category of prefab home can be quite large, and can either be added to a property as an ADU or used as a primary residence.

As always, what sets us apart is not only our focus on high quality construction and our expertise in housing regulations and permitting.
